What Kind of Engagement Rings for Your Hands
Selecting your dream engagement ring style is certainly easier said than done. An engagement ring not only needs to fit her style, but it also needs to look good on her hand. What is the best engagement ring style for your hand? Find the best engagement rings for your hands according to the guide below.

The first thing you need to do is to establish your hand shape, taking into account the length and width of your fingers as well as the overall size of your hand. Don't forget to also consider whether you keep your nails long or trimmed short as longer nails have an elongating effect on the fingers.

Long fingers
If you have long fingers, you can carry off a striking ring design. Wide bands will look good on you. If you want make your hand appear shorter, pick a design that sits across your finger horizontally – such as an 'east-west' gemstone mount (see the blue sapphire ring below) or a three-stone ring.

Small Hands
It's all about proportion. So if her hand is small, a smaller diamond will look larger on her hand. Keep the design less elaborate; you don't want it to look too imposing. A simple solitaire is best and makes enough of a statement on those tiny hands. A thin, delicate pavé band is a great way to add some extra sparkle without going over the top.

Wide Hands
If you have wide fingers, try to avoid narrow stones as revealing too much skin on either side of the ring will further exaggerate the width of your finger. Instead, look for larger round stones or cluster styles set onto a medium to thick band that will draw the eye in and have a slimming effect. Asymmetrical and angular shapes, like the emerald-cut diamond engagement ring below, also help to create the illusion of slimmer fingers.

Short Fingers
Choose a long gem shape to elongate your fingers. Emerald cut, marquis cut, oval, and pear shaped stones in a 'north-south' setting along the finger will achieve this for you. Avoid big rings that overwhelm your hand. These diamond shapes are not quite as sparkly as square and round cut stones. So if you want more sparkle, consider a halo of smaller round diamonds around the main stone.
